  • One of my favorite things to see while in Iceland was the Sun Voyager (Sólfar) - a very striking sculpture by Jón Gunnar Árnason on the coastline meant to resemble a ship going into uncharted territory. I begged my mom to stay up with me till sunset (which was at midnight over there!) to go see it. We went and she’s wonderful for putting up with me in that regard. Got some really fun shots on the Lumix, but this time I also remembered to get some on my phone!   • ??? What do you think? Is Cosplay a type of Manga? I never thought of it in that way personally, but I can certainly see the correlation - after all, most cosplay is inspired by manga, comics, movies, etc. and I think people can use cosplay as a means of telling a story just like these other mediums do.   • We often saw this sign for Snorrabraut street while in Reykjavik. Being incapable of pronouncing it properly, it reminded us of “sleepy”, “snoring” sauerkraut or sauerbraten or bratwurst.   • In Japan last year, I went again to the Heian Shrine and had the time to wander around the gardens and surrounding areas. I love these quiet moments when I travel. Times when you can do things at your own pace, not having to worry about pleasing everyone around you, and just taking the time to think and appreciate the world around you. It can be really therapeutic and calming for the soul and in today’s day and age, I think we all can use that.   • The last stop on our drive around the Golden Circle was Kerid Crater (Kerið). It’s a 55 meter deep volcanic crater that’s over 3000 years old, but honestly, it seemed deeper and older than that to me! There were tons of lava fields around the area too. Really stunning to see on the way back to the hotel.   • Midway through our adventures on the Golden Circle was the Gulffoss Waterfall. I couldn’t believe how high up we were, how huge the waterfall itself was or how it was possible for my camera to still be getting sprayed from all the way up from where we were! My mom picks some of the coolest, most beautiful places to go that I’d never think of! For that reason and so many amazing others, I’m so glad that out of all the kids she could have in the world, she has me, my sister, and my brother. We’re all truly blessed by having her in our life.
